Frequently asked questions
- What is Mooch?
Mooch is an AI-powered desktop app designed to help you ace job interviews. It listens to your interview in real time and surfaces relevant hints, talking points, and answers to keep you calm and confident — like having a brilliant friend whispering in your ear.
- How does it work?
Mooch runs as a discreet overlay on your desktop. It can listen via your microphone or capture system audio from your interview call. As questions come up, it transcribes them and uses an AI model to generate helpful responses and reminders, which appear on screen for you to reference.
- How much does it cost?
It's completely free if you bring your own LLM API key — we support Gemini, OpenAI, and Claude. Just enter your key in the app settings and you're good to go. If you'd rather skip the setup, a managed subscription (no key required) is coming soon.
- Will I get caught?
When screen sharing, make sure to share a specific window rather than your whole desktop — that way Mooch stays out of frame. More importantly, Mooch isn't really "cheating": it acts as a memory aid, surfacing things you already know but might blank on under pressure. Think of it like notes you're allowed to bring — it keeps you composed, not dishonest.
- Help, I can't close the app
It purposefully does not have window closing properties. Please right click on it and close it that way — this is to prevent users from accidentally closing it as they move the app into position over their interviewer.
